Failing Fast

For me there’s always a correlation between how long a project takes me and how much I care about it. I find myself going over the minute detail of things, over and over again. Putting off getting the thing out there because I want everything to be just right.

Spoiler alert: Nothing will ever be just right

I think this is how I have approached this newsletter. Going over and over what the ‘right’ content ideas and positioning, which in turn has meant I’ve put nothing out there.

As a society we have got to be better at encouraging failure. Failure is ultimately the reason we don’t put things out there, because we are scared it won’t be received in the way we want it to. That people will judge us for it.

A fear of failure means we end up striving for that elusive idea of perfection; and when we don’t get close to that (because it’s elusive for a reason) then we stop. We do nothing.

I should really know better. In my previous life in the corporate world I was in the world of tech development, entrenched in the ideas of testing and learning and creating minimal viable products. Putting them out there, getting feedback from customers and then adapting and continuing the cycle.

Imagine what the world would look like if we all took risks in putting our ideas out there. Seeing the reaction. Going back to the drawing board. Testing and learning. If this cycle was not just accepted but also encouraged?!?!

This is the energy I am going to be taking into the last 5 months (!!) of 2022. I’ve got some exciting 1-1 and group coaching contracts on the horizon and I want to be nimble and adaptable with my offerings, so there will be lots of testing and learning. Working closely with companies and clients to understand what’s working and what’s not and making changes.

What one idea and thing can you put out there this week that you’ve been holding back on?

I’d love to know in the comments and to help keep each other accountable!
